OBITUARY
a friend of mine died of loneliness and no-one knew until it all became very undignified indeed.
well. i've been thinking about what to say about it and, you know what? there really is nothing to say.
i could say that we all (his friends, his family) failed him, except that isn't true, we ourselves were coping with troubles.
i could say that society failed him (because it did) but that would be so true it would be trite.
and so, instead, i say this:
john, i remember the hosepipe in the kitchen, i remember the purple-elephant soap you tried to make me eat, i remember getting lost in the darkroom, i remember my son stroking your head in wonderment.
